Electronic mail (email or e-mail) is a method of exchanging messages (“mail”) between people using electronic devices. Email entered limited use in the 1960s, but users could only send to users of the same computer, and some early email systems required the author and the recipient to both be online simultaneously, similar to instant messaging. Ray Tomlinson is credited as the inventor of email; in 1971, he developed the first system able to send mail between users on different hosts across the ARPANET, using the @ sign to link the user name with a destination server. By the mid-1970s, this was the form recognized as email.

LinkedIn is a American business and employment-oriented online service that operates via websites and mobile apps. Launched on May 5, 2003, it is mainly used for professional networking, including employers posting jobs and job seekers posting their CVs. As of 2015, most of the company’s revenue came from selling access to information about its members to recruiters and sales professionals. Since December 2016, it has been a wholly owned subsidiary of Microsoft. As of May 2020, LinkedIn had 706 million registered members in 150 countries.

Telegram is a cross-platform cloud-based instant messaging, video calling, and VoIP service. It was initially launched for iOS on 14 August 2013 in Russia, and is currently based in Dubai. Official Telegram client apps are available for Android, iOS, Windows, Macos and GNU/Linux, as well as for the now-discontinued Windows Phone. There is also an official web interface and numerous unofficial clients. All of Telegram’s official apps are open source.

TikTok, known in China as Douyin is a Chinese video-sharing social networking service owned by ByteDance. The social media platform is used to make a variety of short-form videos, from genres like dance, comedy, and education, that have a duration from 3 to 60 seconds. It is an international version of Douyin, which was originally released in the Chinese market in September 2016. Later, TikTok was launched in 2017 for iOS and Android in most markets outside of mainland China; however, it only became available worldwide, including the United States, after merging with another Chinese social media service Musical.ly on 2 August 2018.

6) Instagram


Instagram (commonly abbreviated to IG or Insta) is an American photo and video sharing social networking service owned by Facebook, created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger and originally launched on iOS in October 2010. The Android version was released in April 2012, followed by a feature-limited desktop interface in November 2012, a Fire OS app in June 2014, and an app for Windows 10 in October 2016. The app allows users to upload media that can be edited with filters and organized by hashtags and geographical tagging. Posts can be shared publicly or with pre-approved followers. Users can browse other users’ content by tags and locations and view trending content. Users can like photos and follow other users to add their content to a feed, a function that seems to be discontinued as of September 2020.

Facebook Messenger is an American messaging app and platform developed by Facebook, Inc. Originally developed as Facebook Chat in 2008, the company revamped its messaging service in 2010, and subsequently released standalone iOS and Android apps in August 2011 and standalone Facebook Portal hardware for Messenger-based calling in Q4 2018. Later on, Facebook has launched a dedicated website interface (Messenger.com), and separated the messaging functionality from the main Facebook app, allowing users to use the web interface or download one of the standalone apps. In April 2020, Facebook officially released Messenger for Desktop, which is supported on Windows 10 and macOS and distributed on Microsoft Store and App Store respectively..

Twitter is an American microblogging and social networking service on which users post and interact with messages known as “tweets”. Registered users can post, like and retweet tweets, but unregistered users can only read them. Users access Twitter through its website interface, through Short Message Service (SMS) or its mobile-device application software (“app”). Twitter, Inc. is based in San Francisco, California, and has more than 25 offices around the world. Tweets were originally restricted to 140 characters, but was doubled to 280 for non-CJK languages in November 2017. Audio and video tweets remain limited to 140 seconds for most accounts..

 Mark Zuckerberg was 23 when he first founded Facebook. While he was attending Harvard University, he released Facebook hoping it would reach to all college students in his area. ““The Facebook” as it was originally known; the name taken from the sheets of paper distributed to freshman, profiling students and staff.”() Within the first few hours of the release, over 1000 students had already become active with Facebook’s features. Soon after, it would spread world-wide making Facebook the #1 social media site to this day. Facebook is headquartered in Menlo Park, California with other few national offices. Top corporate chiefs named, Mark Z, Sheryl Sandberg, David Wehner, Mike Schroepfer, and Chris Cox will play their roles in leading this corporation to prosperity. Facebook’s accounting records for the second quarter in 2016 (April-June 30) show significantly better results than the same quarter in 2015. While Facebook’s cost for its expenses were greater in 2016 than 2015, it still generated ⅓ more in revenues. Facebook’s “mission is to give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected. Also in addition to the services provided by Facebook, they own and operate various other companies as well; Instagram, Atlas, Onavo, Oculus, Whatsapp and more. With Facebook’s app and sub-apps it allows you to interact within their company differently. Facebook also has other services such as Slingshot, Rooms, or the  app, which doesn’t require Facebook logins. Since Facebook’s creation it has been working on improvements to satisfy the utility of its users. Working on adding new innovations to Facebook such as video calling, professional services, “Facebook at work”, improved search methods, shopping, and more will successfully execute their mission statement. These innovations to Facebook’s system influences old users to increase activity and new users to join the wave. Mark and his team have been constantly looking at problems and solutions to help uplift the Facebook community even more. Facebook still holds the world’s #1 social media site.
